New to Baseball - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is HHMBA a good place for my kid to start baseball?

Yes. HHMBA runs community baseball in Georgetown and Acton for players from 5U up to 22U. Whether your child has never picked up a bat or has been playing in the backyard for years, you’re in the right place. Most kids start in house league, even if they’ve never played before. The focus is simple: learn the game, be active, and have fun with friends.

2. What are the different levels — House League, HL Select, Travel and 7U Development?

Think of it as layers:

  • House League (all ages) - The main program; everyone can sign up. This is the right place to start if your child is new to the game, the focus is on learning the basics, making friends, and having fun

    • 5U (Teeball) - an introduction to the basics. Your child will learn the foundations of the game and practise beginner level skills. This program uses a tee for hitting practise
    • 7U (Coach Pitch) - Continued practising of the basics and skills development. Coaches pitch in games.
    • 9U (Machine Pitch) - Further skill development, but still suitable for first time players. Pitching machines are used in games.
    • 10U+ (Player Pitch) - Players learn how to pitch and pitch in games.
  • 7U Development - extra practices for 7U kids who want more reps and learning. This program can help prepare players for future 8U travel opportunities

  • House League (HL) Select - for house league kids who want a bit more competition, on top of house league. There are extra practices and a few additional games/tournaments. Players must be registered in house league first

  • Travel (Eagles) - full rep/“travel” teams that are more competitive, play other centres and require tryouts. Tryouts typically happen in September for the following season. Ideal for players who love baseball and are ready for the next level

If you’re unsure, start with house league. You can always explore these other options later.

3. How do I know what age group my child belongs in?

We place players by birth year, not school grade. Our house league groups are 5U, 7U, 9U, 11U, 13U, 15U and 18U. To see exactly where your child falls, check the Nights of Play page, it shows each age group, the birth years, and the usual nights of play.

 4. What does a typical house league season look like?

House league usually runs from late April to earl August, once diamonds are open and permits are confirmed. Teams play and practice 1-2 evenings per week, depending on age. Games are held on diamonds in both Georgetown and Acton, so your child will see different parks and teams.

15U and 18U House League Teams play in a loop with Milton and Oakville, so games will be held in Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. House League Teams younger than this only play in Halton Hills.

5. What nights of the week will my child play?

Each age group has planned nights of play/practice (for example, 5U on Mondays, 7U on Wednesdays, etc.) You’ll find the full table — age group, birth years and nights — on the Nights of Play page.
Those nights are our best estimate; they are finalized once the Town confirms permits each spring.

6. What equipment does my child need?

For most house league players, parents will need to purchase:

  • A baseball glove that fits your child’s hand
  • A batting helmet
  • Athletic protection (jock or jill)
  • Running shoes or non-metal cleats
  • A water bottle with their name on it

Some families also choose to buy a bat and baseball pants. Each age group has its own short rules document on our House League Rules page; those documents include any special equipment notes for that division.

The League will provide:

  • Team Jersey
  • Baseball Pants
  • Baseball Hat

7. What does the fee cover, and how much is it?

Fees depend on age group. The full list of current fees is on the House League Fees page; for 2026, they are the same as 2025. Your fee helps cover things like uniforms, fields, umpires, shared equipment and association costs to run the program. If you have questions or need clarity, you can always email info@hhmba.ca
